Meet the Host

Robert Pitzer, the host of The Jazz Buffet, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the world of jazz music as a professional musician and retired music educator. During his career he has taught students ranging in age from kindergarten through grad school, and has worked with such acclaimed artists as Ernestine Anderson, Floyd Standifer, Bobby Watson, Jim Cutler, Kenny G, Roy Cummings, Marc Seales, Bill Ramsay, Ernie Watts, Diane Schuur, Deems Tsutakawa, Daniel Barry, Jim Knapp, Hal Sherman and as a member of The Jazz Police. Mr. Pitzer has written for the Smithsonian Folkways website and is a published author with the Oxford University Press. In 2004 he founded and still acts as musical director for the Seattle-based contemporary jazz big band Jazz Underground. Pitzer has been hosting jazz radio programs since 2011.
